Wooden Wonderland: How to accent your space with wood

Love that glossy wood floor, exposed beam ceiling look? You’re far from alone. Wood is a wonderful, natural way to add earthy elements to your living space, and to bring the outdoors inside. If you’re looking to add even more wood to your interior design scheme, consider a few of the following.

wood2Countertops. While real wood countertops may be more difficult to maintain, their gorgeous look in your space may make them worth it. Shop around with your local counter conveyor, or hire someone to create a custom job*. And do consider using wood countertops as an accent feature – perhaps on an island only, or in the butler’s pantry.

Ceilings. Wood ceiling panels or planks can be a great way to add a rustic, farmhouse touch from above*.

wood5Art. From wall hangings to sculptures, there is no shortage of wood art. Check Etsy to find unique pieces, or contact your local gallery. The Cross Timbers Artists’ Guild features the art of local artists; many of them create using natural elements.

Accents. Wood lighting fixtures, wood coasters, wood vases or plant holders, wood-framed mirrors and more. The options are quite literally endless when it comes to spreading wood accents around your space.

wood6Arrangements. Gather bare branches or twigs from your garden and arrange them in a vase. Pinecones in a glass apothecary jar will promote the natural look on a mantle. Or for the ultimate spring touch, bring certain kinds of branches indoors to force blooming. Learn how here.
