Landscape 02.jpgColor is the finishing touch to your beautiful landscaping. As the days begin to heat up, you’ve probably noticed your spring flowers are languishing, looking leggy, or just struggling. Now is the time to plant heat-tolerant flowers to get them off to a good start before the 90-100 degree dog-days of summer begin!

Neil Sperry is a local gardening expert who recommends you plant the following heat-tolerant flowers and foliage now:

  • *Trailing Lantana
  • *pentas
  • purslane
  • moss rose
  • vinca
  • Flowers-vinca.jpg

    Cora Vinca

    Dahlberg daisies

  • angelonias
  • fanflowers
  • spider flowers
  • mandevilla
  • Gold Star Esperanza
  • purpleheart
  • purple fountaingrass
  • *coleus
  • caladiums
  • *firebush
  • copper plants
  • *dragon wing begonias
  • sweet potato vine
  • zinnia

*These were Neil’s five favorite summer annuals back in 2016, and we love them still!!

NOTE: When you purchase your summer flowers, double check the sun requirements as well as the water requirements.

If you’re still in doubt, ask your local nurseryman for recommendations. A trip to the Dallas Arboretum will let you see flowers that thrive in North Texas, in natural settings. Finally, if you use a lawn service, they might be willing to change out your bedding plants with summer flowers.
