“Wow! I’m really enjoying the hottest temperatures since 2011!” – said no one ever. [Pete Delkus, News 8’s Chief Meteorologist] The Dog Days of Summer have DEFINITELY arrived in North Texas! Record heat is predicted for the next few days – yikes!

We recently polled our staff for their favorite things to do and places to go to beat the heat, and they came up with a few ideas. (goodness, just talking about ice skating and water cooled us down a degree or two!) Anyway, here are a few ideas beyond the typical “movie and mall” solution to the heat:

Dallas Galleria – Public ice skating is offered 7 days a week, for $12 admission and $3 skate rental. Hours and other information here

Dr. Pepper Star Center Ice Arena – Home of the Dallas Stars NHL Hockey Team, the Star Center’s six locations also offer public skating. Adults $9, Youth $8 and children under 3 skate free. Skate rental is $4. Additional information and locations here.

Interskate Roller Rink – 1408 TX-121 Business, Lewisville TX – with open skating, skate lessons, private parties and special skating events offered daily, do check the schedule before embarking. Admission and rental fees vary, depending on the event. Rentals include rollerblades, speed skates and traditional quad skates. Something for the whole family to enjoy!

Lone Star Indoor Sports Center – 222 South Mayhill Road, Suite 101, Denton TX – offering 27,000 square feet of year round fun! Open roller skating, pick-up hockey games, hockey leagues and private parties, plus a snack bar and arcade, they are open 7 days a week. It is best to check the calendar for the current schedule. Friday Night Skate is from 5 – 8pm.

Skate Town – 2330 William D. Tate Avenue, Grapevine TX – family owned and operated, Skate Town is one of the newest skating rinks in the metroplex (and one of the largest). Offering open skate times, rentals, lessons, parties, toddler skate, and more.

waterslide-toddlerWATER, WATER EVERYWHERE! – you can’t beat the water for family fun, but no need to drive miles to  a major water park. We have a lot going on right here:

Outdoor Water Park at the Flower Mound CAC – With 2 large water slides, interactive water features, a lazy river, shade structures, three tot slides, the CAC will help keep you wet and hydrated. Open 7 days a week, hours are listed here. A full concession stand is available, but for $5 you can bring your own coolers in.

Lake Grapevine  – We’ve linked to the Grapevine online guide for information about this beautiful 8,000 acre lake. With 8 parks on the lake, there is something for everyone … swimming, playgrounds, hike & bike trails, picnic areas. Did you also know Lake Grapevine has a floating water park located in Meadowmere Park? With slides, obstacle course and trampolines, the park promises hours of fun!

Heritage Park Splash Pad – 600 Spinks Road, Flower Mound – The Splash Pad opened on April 28, 2018. It is 2,000 square foot of fun, featuring 14 unique water features and a separate area for toddlers. Open from 9am to 8pm, daily.

Have fun, stay hydrated, and be safe!
