Amazon to open 4-star store in Frisco, a first for Texas
Amazon has expanded its brick-and-mortar retail presence to Frisco as the company seeks to “meet customers where they are,” according to Amazon Physical Stores Director Drew Sheriff. The new Amazon 4-star store, which features products that have been rated four stars and above or are trending on Amazon’s site, is located within Stonebriar Centre. “There’s just something very visceral and tangible about this (in-person) shopping experience,” Sheriff said. “We think it really complements Amazon.com and the two kind of enhance each other. There are a lot of products that we know people really want to see, touch and feel before they buy or interact with.” The 4,500-square-foot store has a team of curators that pick out all the products sold. The curators use a combination of methods to pick the products, including data from Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN), trending products and some editorial judgement of their own as well. The store even has a specific section for products that are trending in the Lone Star State. “Products change every week, if not more frequently during the holidays,” Sheriff said. “So every time you come, you should find a new thing you love.” The new store will employ about 20 employees. Amazon 4-star has six stores across the United States in locations such as California, Colorado and New York. The Seattle-based company also has additional brick-and-mortar concepts such as Amazon Books, one of which is at Domain Northside in Austin, and Amazon Go. Dallas Business Journal
Supercar Manufacturer McLaren Moving Corporate Headquarters to Coppell
They manufacture some of the fastest, most expensive, and some say best sports cars in the world and now the company is headed to Texas. McLaren is relocating its North American headquarters from New York to a high-tech facility in Coppell. Officials said the growth of their supercar brand requires a “larger facility with greater storage and service capacity” and they apparently found that in a 30,000 square foot facility off of Belt Line Road. McLaren North America President Tony Joseph said, “This new Texas facility means we now have the space and location to deliver even faster and effective support to our 27 strong retailer network as well as be cost effective in both the maintenance of our own vehicle fleet and provision of training courses to our retail partners.” The British automaker, famous for its carbon fiber chassis, said new facility will be home to more than two-dozen employees. “McLaren is a great corporate partner with a long history of excellence and they will bring more high-quality job opportunities to the area,” said Mindi Hurley, with City of Coppell. “We are honored that they have chosen Coppell as their new home.” McLaren says they will be able to “maintain, service and store company owned marketing, press and Pure McLaren experience event vehicles on-site” in Coppell. The corporate headquarters move is expected to be completed during October.
