Target to open small-format store in Dallas area
Next summer will see the first small-format Target store to open in the Dallas area. Slated to open in Preston Center in Dallas, the 54,700-square-foot store will open in July.
Last month, Target’s opened a small-format store near the University of Texas campus in Austin; it includes a CVS pharmacy and Starbucks inside, and is targeted to the college student with food, college gear, and other items necessary for the college life.
Small-format stores were developed by Target to enter markets where its traditional 120,000+ square foot stores won’t fit. Elsewhere in the country, the smaller stores have opened in urban areas, densely populated suburban neighborhoods and on college campuses. So far, the idea has proven to be a sales boon for the retailer.
Target predicts it will have 130 small-format stores open by the end of 2019.
