Renovating Your Kitchen? Consider these high tech features

If you are contemplating a kitchen renovation anytime soon, consider high-tech features to make your space timeless. “We upgrade our phones every year, yet we’re reluctant to outfit our kitchens with technology that will ensure they last the next decade of fads,” according to Innit, a food technology company. Innit offers the following tips on “future-proofing” a kitchen remodel.

Make sure your new appliances are Wi-Fi–enabled. Innit is betting that kitchen appliances that can connect to the internet are the future. The company believes other appliances will eventually be outdated. Connectivity, for example, allows ovens to control the baking for you.

smart-kitchenFind a digital hub to manage your kitchen. “Similar to how we use platforms that manage our living room entertainment—connecting our music, TV shows, movies, and games—our kitchens will soon be managed by platforms that help plan, grocery shop, prepare, and cook,” according to Innit. Download apps that can help you take greater control over your kitchen by using voice commands, for example, or allowing you to directly turn on your oven remotely or access videos with step-by-step directions.

powermatConsider a wireless charging countertop. Innit also believes wireless charging countertops will become the “new quartz.” These countertops will be able to charge your devices. “When choosing a countertop, skip the stone and opt for smart countertops,” according to Innit. “Appliances suitable for these countertops can run right on the surface, creating new meaning to ‘added surface space.’”

Cut the cords. “There are many appliances that are now wireless and compatible with smart countertops,” according to Innit. “A wireless kitchen reduces the number of cords, which is extremely important near kitchen sinks.”
